Deciding to euthanise your pet is one of the hardest decisions a person can make, but when your pet's quality of life deteriorates, or they are suffering from illness or old age, alleviating their pain is the kindest and most caring course of action.

At Peaceful Paws, our highly trained and experienced independent vet will visit your home to put your pet to sleep in a safe and comforting environment, where they can be surrounded by the people they love, and who love them back.

Dr. V. Helen. Jones BVMS MRCVS

Helen, a vet of 18+ years, has lived in the southwest since 2006, working with all creatures great and small.  At a young age, Helen was inspired to help animals and followed in James Herriot’s footsteps by attending Glasgow University.

Helen quickly realised the joy of her job was found in enabling and enhancing the bond between people and their pets.  Families' relationship with their ‘heart pet’ is as varied as the number of breeds in existence. The common thread, however, is always "to want what is best for your pet".

We couldn’t have asked for a better end for our beloved dog, Rufus. Helen was just amazing. We never felt rushed and everything was explained so carefully and sensitively. The card and seeds we received in the post a couple of days after was such a beautiful touch. Unfortunately we had to have our border Collie put to sleep due to behavioral problems, Helen was absolutely fantastic explaining each step, very knowledgeable, kind and very respectful of Pedros requirements... Due to Pedros extreme anxiety around vets Helen was able to keep it completely stress free by making sure Pedro didn't see her. I couldn't have asked for a better way for Pedro to pass stress free on the sofa with his family full of love and lots of scratches! I’ve been unfortunate enough to need to call on Helen twice in two months as I’ve lost two of my most beloved pets. I do however, feel so fortunate to have met Helen as I couldn’t imagine entrusting my animals with anyone else. She is not only calm, gentle, empathetic and kind she is so respectful of your pets and the family members who love them. I am so grateful to Helen for giving my dog Charlie and my cat Kenny the perfect passing they deserved. The genuine kindness shown by her has made a devastating situation so much easier to process. After making the difficult decision to put our family cat Puddin to sleep, we used Helen and couldn't fault her. She is so gentle and compassionate towards you are your pet. Sadly this year we had to put our 4 year old cat Bono to sleep and our of pain, we contacted Helen who came out the same day. I cannot praise Helen highly enough, no words will ever be able to express how grateful we are for her help at the most difficult time. Our beautiful boy Carson disliked the vet immensely and so we always knew we wanted him to pass peacefully at home. Helen handled the whole process from the initial point of booking to transporting our boy to his next life with care and compassion. She was gentle, kind and patient with us whilst talking us through the process and allowing us as much time as we needed. Carson gained his wings peacefully at home on the sofa just had we had hoped in the most dignified way thanks to Helen. Having said goodbye to our 4 cats over the last four years, I can honestly say that Helen helped make the euthanasia of our final cat (Eddie) the calmest experience of this process that we have had.  She is compassionate and caring and did not rush us at all.  She kindly waited in her van whilst we said our final goodbyes and arrange for cremation at a very caring crematorium. Helen made the worst day of our lives easier and less traumatic. Helens communication from start to finish was brilliant and the care she gave our beautiful dog was done subtly and compassionately. We feel some relief in that we were able to say goodbye at home. Helen understood our needs and our dog was blissfully unaware and pain free. Helen guided us through one of the most difficult times in our lives. Eva was diagnosed with heart failure 9 months ago, with medication twice a day we were blessed to have extra time with our precious baby girl. However, over two weeks she rapidly slowed down and clearly, although she still wanted to be there for us, her enjoyment was reducing and health declining. We made the hardest decision, leading to me calling Helen. From that first sobbing call, Helen showed understanding and kindness, taking control and making arrangements for our preferred evening goodbyes. Her guidance was needed and because of her, a traumatic time, is now an image of our Eva Belle, enjoying all the treats, with no stress, surrounded by our love and going to sleep with Helens gentle help, in her own bed. We were given all the time we needed, and Helen ensured she was safely cared for until she came home from Forget me Not pet cremation two days later. When we had to make the extremely difficult decision to have our best friend Monty put to sleep, we knew the last thing he would have wanted was to be taken to the vets for his last journey. Instead, we contacted Helen and she came to us. Monty was able to go to sleep in his own bed, outside on the grass, eating sausages in the sunshine. The whole experience was so peaceful, and it helped us a lot to know he was able to enjoy his last moments, rather than being at the vets , which he would have hated. Helen was amazing.
